Space Theme

Our space theme was really interesting.

Each child made lots of different equipment for space travel,

made rockets, moon craters and became astronauts themselves.

Take a look at the photographs below to find out more.

The Solar System

We made paper mache planets of different sizes, wrapping paper around balloons.  We then painted the planets, copying the colours from our books and posters about space.

We also hung some old CDs on the display to imitate stars in the solar system.  These reflected the light and twinkled.

Astronauts and Breathing Apparatus

The children loved becoming astronauts, each child coloured in their astronaut and glued a picture of themselves onto the visor of the astronaut.

The breathing apparatus were made from old fizzy drinks bottles, wrapped in silver foil and had string attached so that they could wear them to pretend to be in space.

Constellations

The children created their constellations using silver pen on black card.

Moon Craters

Each child created a moon crater out of plaster, mixing the power plaster with water and pouring it into a small bowl, they then put some bubble wrap on top of the plaster to form the craters.

They were then finished off with a St Georges flag, made from small pieces of card stuck onto a cocktail stick, with the red cross drawn on in felt pen.
